How the Praline Championship works

Step 1 – registration
The competition is open to all professional confectioners and professional praline artisans. Registration for the Praline World Cup 2025 opens on May 14 and closes on September 22. You register and describe your entry.

Step 2 – Preparation
Prepare your show chocolates and recipes to be handed in or sent to the address you will find under “Registration”. The deadline is September 22, so it is good if we can have the chocolates 1-2 weeks before the deadline.

Step 3 – judging
The Master Confectioners will meet to select 5 finalists who will compete in the Praline Championship on stage in front of an audience in Stockholm on November 9.

Step 4 – Show Pralines and Theme Pralines
Finalists will be informed about this year’s theme and will have to make 30 theme pralines during the competition, which is new this year. In addition, they must bring 30 show chocolates – the chocolates they used in their application for the Praline World Cup – for judging on the day of the competition.

Step 5 – final competition in Stockholm
The final will take place at Stockholmsmässan during Sthlm Food & Wine and Bak- & Choklad on November 9, 2025. On stage, the contestants will carry out a praline-making moment for a technical assessment of the craftsmanship. They will also present their show pralines and create themed pralines on site for judging.

Once the technical elements have been judged by the master pastry chefs on stage and all presentations have been completed, the jury will meet to discuss and decide on the ranking of the five finalists.

The jury for the Praline-SM 2025 consists of the following members
Elisabeth Johansson, Christina Möller and SBoKM (the Swedish Association of Master Bakers and Confectioners) with Jan Danielsson, Magnus Håård and Gustaf Mabrouk.

What exactly does the jury assess?
There are two juries that judge the finalists. A method jury and a taste jury (theme praline and show praline). The protocols for what the jury judges can be found here and here.

The year of the Swedish champion – winner of the Praline-SM
The winner of the Praline-SM will be asked to participate in various events organized by the competition’s sponsors. It is desirable that winners participate in these events on a number of occasions during the year.

During Sthlm Food & Wine & Bak- & Choklad 2026, the winner of the Praline-SM 2025 will create and sell the Festival Praline of the Year. The praline will be developed by the winner with products from the competition’s main sponsor KåKå. Stockholmsmässan will provide a stand for sales. The winner and Stockholmsmässan will jointly price the praline to cover costs while providing the opportunity for profit.
